Ms. Brown is a dedicated educator who upon graduation from Texas Southern University has held music teaching positions in the Houston Independent School District at J. Will Jones Elementary; Ryan Middle School; and Codwell Elementary.  She has been a valued member of the Codwell Elementary School Fine Arts Magnet Faculty for eighteen years.  Currently, she is the school’s Director of Strings and as such, strives to teach her students to appreciate the beauty and power of the violin.  In 2010, her Codwell string students performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.  Also, her students performed for the 2011 National conference of the National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music (NASPAAM) held in Houston, Texas.  The high level of her students’ performances continues to be a testament to her firm belief that all children can learn if given the proper tools.

As a gifted musician, accomplished flutist, and talented violinist, Ms. Brown frequently performs music of the classical and jazz genres in a variety of performance venues.  In addition to performing, she released her first studio CD in 2002 entitled “Closer”. Her achievements as a professional musician and educator include conducting the Conrad Johnson Youth Orchestra for five years.  She is a member of Who's Who Among Professionals at Cambridge University and is listed in Who's Who in Black Houston.

Due to being highlighted in the 2008 National Breast Cancer Awareness Calendar as a fifteen year breast cancer survivor, she is an inspiration to colleagues, family, friends, and all others who know her.

Elfrida is a true outstanding example of a music educator, advocate, and performer. On an every day basis, she is truly “Raising the Standard!”.
